Who we are

Finance expertise for AI research.

Aptura is an applied AI research company focused on complex, real-world professional work, starting with finance.

We work with practitioners to create rigorous examples of financial analysis and decision-making. Your work helps AI systems learn from the reasoning that sits behind a strong model and presentation: how you frame a question, choose assumptions, build an argument and reach a conclusion.

Who we're looking for

People who have done the work.

Hands-on experience matters. You should be able to explain what you personally built.

Investment bankingPrivate equityValuationEquity researchCorporate finance

You could be a fit if you can:

  • Own the model. Build in Excel, explain the drivers and make the analysis work when assumptions change.
  • Make an argument. Turn analysis into a clear investment or strategic presentation in PowerPoint.
  • Bring sector knowledge. Explain the companies, economics and questions you understand best.
  • Work through feedback. Make time for the initial build and reviewer revisions.
What you would build

Create a complete investment case.

Choose an original and realistic scenario, such as an acquisition opportunity, strategic review or investment committee proposal. Propose a company you know, or discuss an assigned case with our team.

Financial model

Excel

A complex financial model that supports your case, with a clear structure, evidenced assumptions and outputs that reconcile to the presentation.

For example: an operating forecast, valuation and returns analysis appropriate to the approved case.

Presentation

PowerPoint

A decision-ready argument for a specific audience. Explain what the numbers mean, what you recommend and what could change your view.

For example: a preliminary investment committee presentation evaluating an acquisition.

Source pack

Documents + source log

The documents and references behind the analysis. Save relevant source files and map important facts and assumptions to them so another professional can check your work.

Use: public or authorised shareable material, such as filings, transcripts and company reports. Never confidential employer or client information.

Start with a short case brief, not the full deck or model. The team approves your direction and scope before the full build.

Your first output

What is a case brief?

A short proposal on the Aptura platform that tells your reviewer what you plan to build and why. It aligns the company, audience, thesis and model scope before you spend time on the full work.

The question it should answer

“What decision are we making, and what analysis will help us make it?”

The sections below explain the fields you will see on the platform. These are examples to help you understand the task; you do not submit your brief on this website.

1.Company information

Give the factual basics of the company. Keep them short, precise and relevant to the proposed case.

Company name

The legal or commonly used company name.

Sector and geography

The specific sub-sector and the company's main operating markets.

Ownership status

Whether the company is publicly listed or privately held. The team confirms eligibility.

2.Case type

The case types below are examples. The agreed deliverable and decision context determine the analysis, format and depth.

Sellside M&A teaserBuyside opportunityStrategic reviewPreliminary IC memo

Illustrative example: a preliminary investment committee memo evaluating a full acquisition.

3.Persona, audience and purpose
Persona: who is doing the work?

The function, firm type and seniority of the professional producing it.

Audience: who receives it?

The decision-maker and the decision they need to make.

Purpose: in 1–3 sentences, explain the situation, recommendation or question, why it matters now and the intended output.

Illustrative example: a PE deal team preparing an initial view for its investment committee on whether to pursue an acquisition.

4.Core thesis and angle

Write 5–10 concise, company-specific claims that the analysis can later prove or challenge. Include relevant catalysts, investment highlights, risks and mitigants.

What makes a useful claim: identify the driver, explain its potential effect and say what evidence would support or disprove it. A broad statement such as “the sector is growing” needs more detail.

5.Financial analysis and model scope

Explain what you intend to analyse and how deep the model needs to be to answer the business question.

  • Planned modelling and valuation methods.
  • Historical and forecast periods.
  • How assumptions will be sourced, with gaps or limitations flagged.
  • Workbook tabs, calculations and main outputs.
  • Charts, KPIs and sensitivities that support the decision.

Illustrative example: an operating forecast by business segment, cash-flow analysis and valuation sensitivity. Choose methods that fit your actual case.

Submit the brief, then wait for approval.

Your reviewer may ask you to refine the angle or scope. Begin the full build after brief approval and contracting are complete.

What good looks like

A clear argument, backed by evidence.

  • The case is realistic. A credible company situation and a question a real banker or investor would ask.
  • The model works. Clear assumptions, sound formulas and outputs that update when inputs change.
  • The deck explains the decision. A coherent argument supported by the model, including risks and sensitivities.
  • The evidence is traceable. Important facts and assumptions can be checked against your source pack.

No AI use

All project work must be your own. Do not use AI tools for research, writing, assumptions, formulas, analysis, models or presentations.

Time and payment

Scope, availability and compensation.

Availability

Tell us your available hours per week over the next 2–4 weeks and your earliest start date. Allow time for feedback and revisions as well as the initial build.

Compensation

This is paid project work. Your scope, fee, deadlines and payment conditions are confirmed individually in writing. Payment requires a signed Deel contract and satisfaction of the agreed payment conditions.

Support

After onboarding, use project Slack and the platform for your case. A reviewer suited to the case will review your submitted brief and guide the subsequent work.
